TRADITIONAL THRUMMED MITTENS WITH SANDRA

Regular price $55.00
DESCRIPTION
Thrummed mittens originated in Newfoundland and Labador. They were a favourite among fishermen hundreds of years ago. The word Thrum refers to yarn waste from weaving looms that were originally knitted into mittens and other garments for added warmth. Tufts of roving wool are now used to knit into mitten’s interior, creating an insulated wool lining. In this three-hour workshop, participants will learn how to make thrums and incorporate them into their knit fabric. Knitting cuffs for your mittens prior to the first class will be required. Instructions for cuffs will be emailed to participants registered for the class.
