With a warm, woolly halo and full-bodied texture, Appledore is a durable workhorse yarn that's pill-resistant and ideally suited to everyday wear in garments or accessories. In its DK variation, it's a loosely spun yarn with a distinctive rustic halo – the handle is a little reminiscent of a Shetland yarn.
The resulting fabric has a wonderfully warm woolly halo and a full-bodied texture. Because of this halo and its two-ply nature, Appledore DK can be worked at both a tight and loose gauge, as the fibres will simply expand to fill in any gaps around the stitches.
Made from fibre sourced right here in the West Country, our Appledore blend encompasses our ethos of making local, uniquely heathered yarns. Packed full of bounce and a smattering of lustre, it's the perfect canvas for a range of playful, tweed-inspired shades.
Appledore is made with Devon Closewool, a rustic, moorland breed; lustrous and characterful Romney; and our old favourite, the gloriously bouncy Exmoor Blueface. The tweedy shades are all named after different varieties (or cultivars if you want to get all fancy) of cider apples that we have here in the West Country.
